The sweetest route to retail stores – route optimization for Cloetta sales promoters

Route optimization for confectionery company Cloetta is certainly one of the sweetest projects we did in 2017. We visualized the location of Cloetta’s sales promoters’ customers, that is retail stores, on the map and optimized driving routes. This way the sales promoters will from now on have more time for working in the store.

Cloetta employs about a hundred sales promoters around Finland. Sales promoters are in charge of product display of Cloetta’s packaged confectionery as well as loose candy in Finnish retail stores such as Citymarkets, K-Supermarkets and Tokmanni.

The goal of the route optimization was to create an effective model for transportations between stores and get more time for the sales promoters to work in stores. Especially the increasing loose candy sales requires efficient use of time in the store”, says Tiia Nykänen, in charge of Cloettas Finnish sales field.

The goal was reached with visualizing the retail store locations on the map. After this, the driving routes and driving time was optimized, creating an entity of about a hundred efficient and logical routes.

Cloetta Finland is a part of the Nordic Cloetta corporation. Cloettas part of the Finnish confectionery market is over one quarter. Cloetta brands include Xylitol-Jenkki, Läkerol Dents, Mynthon, Sisu, Aakkoset, Tupla and Royal.
